Bus Stop Outside a Window

It was a dark dreary night. I stood at a bus stop i found in this dark quiet neighborhood. I had just left my girlfriend’s house at midnight. I stood there quietly looking into the dark of the streets in this place I've never been before. There was only one street light near the bus stop illuminating this dark street where I stood. There was not a single breeze in the air to blow the dark towering trees. The houses on this street all had their lights off. There was no one who seemed to be awake at this time. I stood alone in my own thoughts in the dark night, feeling truly alone and tired. I stood staring into a house’s window with the street light illuminating my reflection.
I closed my eyes briefly feeling tired of looking into my own reflection. I opened my eyes again and suddenly the window I looked into had its lights turned on. A couple was standing there in their kitchen. I wasn't close enough to see their faces clearly but I could tell they seemed happy with the way they smiled at each other and held each other in their arms. It was a warm scene, seeing two people so happy with each other. They felt something I didn't feel. I just couldn't feel happy the way they seemed to be. I kept looking, feeling so bored and alone. They were happily talking with laughter and smiles on their faces while they stood near their kitchen counter. They seemed to have the type of happiness anyone would want to feel with another person. The type of happiness with another person that makes them feel like they are truly special and important to each other. They kept talking and laughing without a care in the world and then he turned away from her to reach over the kitchen island. He had his back to her as he grabbed a flower out of the vase. The expression on the woman’s face quickly changed from a happy smile to an angry stare. I saw the her eyes dart to the knife on the counter. She quickly grabbed a knife and held it with both her hands as she drove the knife deep into his back. His lifeless upper body was laying on the counter with his face towards the window.

I should have been scared. I should have ran away but something about him drew me closer. I took some steps closer and closer till I could see his face. I looked at his face and I recognized it immediately. This wasn't just anybody. It was me. The event i just witnessed already happened. I wasn't alive. After realizing this, I could see in the corner of my eye a beaming ray that was shining from a moving light. I thought it was the bus but as I turned to look at it, the light was blinding and rapidly approaching me. Suddenly the light reached me and consumed me entirely. Every bit of darkness and negativity I felt was gone. I felt myself drift away with the light.

"Then he is Dead"

Throughout Macbeth, we see what Macbeth has become and what he's done and we can see how he slowly loses himself even before he dies by the hands of Macduff. The cost of what he did to get where he is in the end was not worth it. He killed many people including King Duncan who he was suppose to be loyal to, Banquo who was his friend . He even killed Macduff's family. The stress and hysteria gained after killing these people was not worth it after he held that power for a short period of time. I can see why Macbeth would keep killing after rising to power so he could keep the power but the repercussions and the guilt from killing hurt him more than the reward of power gave him. With rising up to becoming a King, he lost his wife who killed herself because even she couldn't handle the weight of killing someone. But it was more than killing someone that slowly took Macbeth's mind, it was betraying and doing what was against his morals which changed him. We saw him as a righteous and innocent man but in the end he became twisted and corrupt. In the end he ruined others lives and his own and that's why I don't believe what he did was worth it in the end.

"From the crown to the toe, top-full of direst cruelty"

When Lady Macbeth reads the letter from Macbeth she's told how Macbeth was addressed as the Thane of Cawdor. She knows it will happen but she fears that he's too loyal, honorable and noble to overthrow King Duncan. So when she finds out that King Duncan is coming she wants all traces of kindness, compassion, remorse, and womanly feeling taken out so that she can be ruthless and kill King Duncan and not feel regret to help her husband be king and become greater. I thought during Shakespeare's time this would've been completely different from how woman are looked upon because they would've been viewed as kind and weak beings but she wants to become a ruthless cold-hearted killer willing to remove her feminine traits to help her husband become king, in the process changing her. She wanted to change so no feelings of compassion or pity could stop her from killing the king. In her whole speech she wants to attain a level of cruelty to kill that not even a higher being can tell her to stop.

No New Tale To Tell

There's always been greed. It's not new. The desire to possess wealth and materialistic objects beyond our actual need for survival has been apart of us. In the Pardoner's tale, because of their greed they all ended up killing each other and in the end backstabbing each other. There was no trust between these men which ended in their death. In modern times there are examples of this where in bank robbers end up killing each other for the money or when gang members kill each other in transactions to take both the money and whatever is being sold. Even in modern days we have backstabbing because of greed to take more and more.
The Wife of Bath taught us men should listen to their wives and view them as equals and in modern times we see that in feminism where we should treat women as equals in our society like men but now in our times in society we see that so much more where its valued in our society and treating women as objects is looked down upon in our times. In this tale we see how women wish to be able to govern their husband but I don't think all women want to dominate their husbands, I think they want respect to be able to make their own decisions.

Truth

When the Shaper came to the mead-hall he was able to sing of glorious things that boosted King Hrothgar and his people's morale by praising them and twisting the truth. His purpose was to get Hrothgar's men stirred up and motivated to do more daring things and seek more wealth for their King and he was able to do that. But through all this glory and "truth" sung, this leaves Grendel overwhelmed because he knew the truth to the things the Shaper says but he begins to remember the truth, the Shaper's way.
Grendel wants to believe in this positive view on the world shown by the Shaper but a part of him that didn't believe in religion remembered how the lives of men and animals we're unnecessarily killed for kingdoms to gain wealth. He knew that unnecessary killing of people or animals was wrong. The Shaper was able to twist history and change views for even someone who's seen that history and I don't think  what the Shaper does is right. If someone tells of the glory of killing to get more wealth then there's nothing learned from history to not repeat the mistakes done before.

The Modern Day Grendel

In the modern day, I think that the three teens from Oklahoma that gunned down Christopher Lane who was a 23 year old college baseball player. Even though these three teens aren't some evil demon they do share similarities to Grendel who killed for fun. Just like Grendel these teens killed Christopher Lane just for the fun of it because they were bored. In Beowulf the people in the mead-hall are having fun and singing and this makes Grendel mad enough to go kill them all. With these three guys the just saw Christopher Lane and targeted him after seeing him and from seeing him you would see that this guy seems like a fine good person who has a good life and these teens are bored and don't have that kind of content with their lives so it makes the seek the thrill of killing someone who obviously has a better life. Just like how Grendel who was an outcast and different had to suffer because of God and ended up finding a good feeling about killing people. Grendel felt good about taking the future away from people who lived a better life than him and these teens took the life of someone who had a bright future and probably lived a better life than them. Both Grendel and these teens have caused a lot grief and suffering to other people by their actions

Me

I'm Nathan. I play basketball and lacrosse. I am on the school lacrosse team. I enjoy playing sports but also reading occasionally for fun when I have the time. I hate homework but I'll try my best and work hard on completing my homework correctly. I love to hang out with my friends. I love movies and TV shows. Some of the TV shows I watch are How I Met Your Mother, Breaking Bad, and Walking Dead. My favorite subject in school is Science and English. I hate math because I'm not very good at it. I've been learning Japanese for 10 years and I went to Japan last summer.
